When you consider the term “CPA”, a creative soul will seldom come to mind. But when it comes to our associate Jan, her 20 years of professional tax work is just one side to her diverse passions. From accounting and tax work, to party planning, sewing, and repurposing, Jan truly allows her creative knack at heart to shine through in everything she does. On this month’s “Staff Spotlight”, learn a little more about our associate inside and out of the office world!
In Jan’s free time, she finds many ways to allow her creative side to shine. She loves to repurpose, sew, decorate, and party plan. She has planned birthday parties for her dog, Rockie, and even hosted a “Yappy Hour”! Last year, she compiled and published a cookbook of her family’s recipes. Even at work, Jan is known for her creativity, which is displayed each year as she plans a rooftop BBQ for our staff here at Baker Holtz each summer. Whenever we’re planning a party or celebration, you can always count on Jan to pitch in!
Jan also holds a strong passion for theater, in which was first discovered as she volunteered as an usher at a local theater in her hometown. She instantly fell in love. Little did she know, she would meet her husband at that very theater over a decade later. Jan and her husband enjoy travelling and seeing theatre, especially in New York City and London.
In Jan’s early working career, she held a position as a credit manager at a bank. There, she learned how a balance sheet and income statement were put together and had her first taste of credits and debits. It was during this position that she decided to finish her college degree and go on to become a CPA.
Within Baker Holtz, Jan is our associate; responsible for many varying aspects of work from preparing trust returns to payroll. She also works on different accounting and tax related work. Jan’s versatility here allows her to often work on one of a kind projects.
Jan enjoys the satisfaction of helping people with their tax returns and answering any tax questions they may have. Click the button below to get in touch with our one and only Janet K. Sheffield for any tax (or theatre) related questions!
